Kudos for having chosen Waugh twice.

On the other hand, it is a pity that one is not actually a book at all, and that as many as four of the nine were written originally in languages other than English.
To be favourites of the first class, they really must be read in their original languages; otherwise, too much of what makes them truly great books is missed.
But not many of the books on this list can plausibly be describes as “great”, so maybe you’re not worried about that.

Decent list, but where’s Sybil Bedford’s ‘The Legacy?’

Mr Clark, you are correct in that this is a list of ten loves, but not necessarily ten ‘greats’. (At least two or three of them are arguably greats anyhow.)

Don Antigon, you have overhyped that book to such an extent that when I read it I was underwhelmed, despite its strengths!

Looking forward to reading some of these. A Time of Gifts is an all time favorite for me. It brings to mind a lost time, lost people and forever changed places.
