Mass for Prince Pedro Luiz

The “week’s mind” Mass, or Mass of seven days, was held a week after the death of Dom Pedro Luiz of Orleans-Braganza in São Paulo, Brazil on June 8, 2009. The Mass was offered according to the extraordinary (or Tridentine) form of the Latin rite. The members of the Imperial Family of Brazil were in attendence.

From left to right: 1) Dom Luiz, head of the Imperial House; 2) Prince Antônio, his brother & heir; 3) Princess Cristina, wife to Prince Antônio and daughter of the late 13th Prince of Ligne; 4) Prince Rafael, who takes over from his recently deceased brother as heir-presumptive to the throne of Brazil.

The Imperial Family have been among the foremost supporters of Catholic tradition in Brazil, where there exists a deep support for the traditional forms of the Roman liturgy.

Dom PEDRO LUIZ, requiescat in pace.

Today we had in Rio a Mass for D. Pedro Luiz, at the Ancient See of Rio de Janeiro.
At that church, D. João VI was acclamed king of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarves; D. Pedro I and D. Pedro II were each one crowned Emperor of Brazil; were baptized D. Pedro II, D. Isabel and various princes of Brazil.
