More or less, the musings of a graduate of a Scottish university, born in New York, formerly resident in South Africa, and now living in London.
@cusackandrew: Visited Erskine Childers' old regiment in London tonight. His name on the Boer War roll of honour was pointed out with ironic pride.

USMA 37, Temple 21

A HIKE UP into the Hudson Highlands, to see West Point trounce Temple University 37-21. (The last time I saw Temple play at Michie Stadium was in September 1994, when they beat Army 23-20). Army opened this game well by scoring a touchdown and field goal in the first minute, but gave the Temple Owls too much leeway, matching Army 21-21 by the half. Luckily, the Black Knights pulled through in the second half and finished the Owls off rather nicely.

The crossing tower of Cadet Chapel in the distance. The chapel is the descending hillside from Michie Stadium, so the tower appears shorter than it actually is.

Before the game starts, a handful of cadets parachute onto the field, the last one bringing the football for the game.

They’re supposed to land at the middle of the field. This one handled it well, but parachuting is a very tricky thing.

Here comes the next fellow…

…nearly landing on the last company on parade.

And the next.

About right.

And the last one, with the football.

Whup!

Oops. A sudden gust of wind forces him to land just outside the stadium.

The victorious team gathers to sing the alma mater.
